Rosco Clear Acrylic Glazes

Clear Acrylic Glazes

Rosco Clear Acrylic Glazes are versatile acrylic finish coatings that can be used to protect other painted finishes, provide additional strength and adhesion to other scenic paints, or to create transparent glazes and color washes.

Available in 1 Quart (0.95 litre) tins.

When used as a topcoat, Rosco Acrylic Glazes provide a tough durable finish to protect painted scenery from wear and tear caused by handling, scratches and spills. Clear Acrylic Glazes can be used on the stage floor to protect a paint treatment from basic wear and tear, as well as providing the desired flat or gloss finish. Scenic artists can use a mixture of flat and gloss to achieve complete control over the finished paint treatment. Please note that Clear Acrylic does not provide the same protection to floors as a urethane finish.

When added to paint, Rosco Glazes increase the adhesion and flexibility of the mixture. Rosco Glazes are compatible with all Rosco Paints and many other water based or latex paint formulations. Always test for compatibility when attempting an untried combination.

Technical Specifications

Application Stir contents before use. Do not shake. Apply by brush, roller, or spray gun. Apply in thin, uniform coats with a good quality brush or roller using overlapping strokes, keeping a wet edge. Change roller direction often to avoid patterns and streaking. Do not apply a heavy coat. To build up a more durable finish, apply several thin coats, allowing each to dry thoroughly between applications to prevent the finish from clouding over while drying.
Surface Preparation Surfaces should be clean, dry and free from dirt and grease. When applying over a painted finish, always test before hand for compatibility. Allow paint treatment to dry 24 hours before top coating with Clear Acrylic Glazes.
Compatibility When using a paint with weaker binder strength, such as casein or tempura paints, adding 1 to 2 cups of Clear Glaze (flat or gloss based on the desired finish) will improve both the adhesion of these paints to non-porous surfaces as well as making the finish more resistant to scratches and burnishing.
Coverage Approximately 14 square metres per litre at 1:1 Dilution.
Film Thickness Approximately 0.025mm at 1:1 dilution. Dry film.
Dilution Always dilute at least 1:1 with water. Failure to dilute Rosco Acrylic Glazes may cause the film to cloud over as it dries.
Drying Time

Dries to the touch in 30 minutes at 24°C. Can be re-coated in 1-2 hours. Clear Acrylic Glaze has a milky appearance when wet but will dry clear.

DO NOT USE HEAT OR FORCED AIR TO ACCELERATE DRY TIME AS CLOUDING MAY OCCUR.
